John had his right leg amputated above the knee after motorbike accident in 2000.

He medalled at the 2005 European Championships just months after he started training with Darrell Maynard. John has a degree and Masters in Sport & Exercise Science. from UWIC and Swansea.

The only thing that has slowed him down was when his prosthetic limb was stolen from the boot of his car in 2006. His heroes include Michael Johnson, Seb Coe and Lance Armstrong.

He can play guitar and speak French.
