As an athlete, I competed in the sprint hurdles event for Cardiff AC, Swansea, and Newport Harriers, winning medals at regional, Welsh, and British levels at club and school in various age groups. I represented Wales at junior and senior level, but my greatest achievement was representing Great Britain as a junior international athlete at the 110 mH abroad.
I am a former u20 indoor 60mH Welsh Championship record holder and still the regional and club (Newport Harriers) record holder.
I was self-coached and assisted by my father, who was an inspiration to me.
In terms of coaching, I have guided athletes from Cardiff AAC and Cwmbran Harriers in the short and long hurdles to British and Welsh titles at various age groups. I have held positions as speed coach for the East Wales Region and for the Welsh Celtic Games team. Many of the athletes I have coached have achieved international and national vests, are ranked in the all-time top 10 in the UK, and hold Celtic Games records. I am a UKA Level 3 sprints and hurdles coach and qualified in strength and conditioning.
Currently, I enjoy watching and coaching my two sons Jayden Jones (11) and Zachary Jones (7), who are starting out in their athletic journeys with their local club, Rhymney Valley Athletics Club.
Jayden in his first season as an u13B has won 5 Welsh National Titles. |
