My circuit class last night was in the form of a Chinese banquet in the Chung Ku, a work out in itself!
Knee still sore today, it feels okay after a good warm up but sitting at a desk all day probably doesn’t help. The lads were doing a 4 mile tempo and I agreed to take Nick around in 6:20’s – if my knee was playing up I’d dart off. Stu gave Nick and myself a 2 minute head start, Nick obviously feeling better than he thought pulled away and went through the first mile close to 6’s – I stuck to 6:20 then after Stu passed me around the 2.75 mile mark I stepped it up a tad to catch Nick who ended up doing 25:11, I was 24:50 and Stu was 22:30 - the knee felt okay which is a bonus. Seven miles all in the warm up/down.
Devils Gallop tonight, a multi terrain run that used to be a 10 mile-ish race that incorporated the Speke/Garston Riviera that is Oglet Shore. Rumour has it the Fabs song ‘Mother Natures Son’ was a tribute to Macca’s childhood ramblings along the shore fact fans.
There are still the remnants of the old salt mine down the Shore and strange concrete monoliths are scattered along the coast, I half image the locals getting all excited in night time rituals around the monoliths, kinda like the ape creatures in Stanley Kubricks 2001 ;0)
Weather permitting, it’s an enjoyable run but it can be quite hazardous. I think the race lost its permit due to health and safety concerns but this doesn’t deter the PLS massive who turn out last Thursday of every month to take part. The run is only done when the clocks go back and we have a special Christmas Gallop too.
Hopefully my knee will be up for this and as long as don’t get dragged into a quick pace I should be fine! |
