Diary of an Athletic Nobody – Long Run, Cold Baths and resting John Connolly 25 Jul 11 15:00Report

I ran 76 miles last week, ending with a log run on the Saturday that once again incorporated the Park Run, which had a venue change to Sefton Park due to a festival being help over in Princes Park. I can’t heap enough praise on the PLS gang who got the Park Run set up, it’s a brilliant little event and ideal for training. Sticking in the middle of long run adds a bit of quality and interest into session, I wont be doing them everytime I do a weekend long run but it’s like having another little session.

During the summer, I usually finish the long run with a stretch and a cold plunge, don’t think I could handle a cold bath in the winter but I don’t mind ‘em when it’s warm. They’re not for everyone but there must be a method in the madness. I did fancy going to Snowden to watch the International Mountain Race but I was too knackered to face the journey and subsequent standing around. A few lads from the club took part and I’d love to give it a go next year. Andi Jones won the race for the 5th time in 5 attempts, sounded like he had a good battle with Murray Strain, the race was on S4C so I’ll watch it tonight.

Steady one for me today and I’ll try to get out again later. Got Sale 10 mile race in a few weeks so think I’ll stay race free and concentrate on that with some sessions etc. for the next few weeks.
