My career in athletics started as a 15 year old at Belgrave Harriers when I joined in 1968.I was with Belgrave until 1978 and really enjoyed my time there under the watchful eye of wonderful coaches Reg Hopkins,Tom Carter,Ron Linstead and eventually Gordon Biscoe.I made the English Schools for Surrey plus represented Surrey for both track and XC I represented South Of England as a Junior and Senior plus ran for Team GB in Santry Dublin in European Schools in 1970.We at Belgrave Harriers had a good youth team of Peter Carton,Bill Curtain,Tony Binda and myself winning two Surrey titles,A 2nd and 3rd in the Southern XC and a 4th,8th and 10th at National level These experiences have helped greatly with my time at WGEL whom I joined in 1978 I have coached since 2000.My main ethos with coaching youngsters is being there for everyone,not just the top athletes I help coach.Today I still enjoy supporting youngsters both in schools I work in plus at WGEL.My main aim for all athletes is long term athlete development(LTAD) There are a few athletes within our groups who could go on to represent Team GB but it’s paramount these athletes are not over trained in their early years Another aim for me as coach is to help bring junior athletes through to the senior ranks
